30.09.2020 Photography, cabins and cacti

The upcoming weekend serves not only the second part of Fotofestiwal, but also the presentation of Polish photography during the Kaunas Art Book Fair.

The Kaunas Art Book Fair starts on Friday, and over there – a program devoted to Polish photography. The audience will be able to see the works of Antonina Gugała, Lena Dobrowolska, Dominika Sadowska, Agnieszka Sejud, Agnieszka Rayss and Karolina Wojtas – presented on a specially prepared installation referring to cabins in summer camps popular in the second half of the previous century. Additionally, Franek Ammer from Fotofestiwal and Michał Leśniowski from Krakow Photomonth prepared a perverse selection of Polish photo books – in which authors talk about other countries and regions. This part of the exhibition will feature publications by artists known to the photo festival audience, including: Piotrek Zbierski, Paweł Jaszczuk and Karolina Gembara. The promotion of Polish photography ends with a publication issued for this occasion. In it, we pay tribute not only to photography, but also … to cacti that triumphed in Polish apartments in the 1980s and 1990s. You will be able to discuss all the elements of the program at the evening event that we will host. All events will take place at Kaunas Photography Gallery, the full program of the fair can be found 👉 here. Meetings with authors and discussions (including one about Polish photography books – with the participation of Agnieszka Rayss) will also be available on the organizers’ fanpage 👉 here.

The presentation of photography in a light formula that at the same time introduces elements of Polish culture and hospitality is the hallmark of our activities as part of the informal association of Fotofestiwal, TIFF Festival and Krakow Photomonth. This year we cooperated with the Riga Photomonth Festival (online record of events available 👉 on our fanpage), the Symposium of Photography in Nida and the ManifestO Festival in Toulouse. In previous years, thanks to cooperation on obtaining grants for the promotion of Polish photography abroad, the invited artists visited events such as the Les Recontres d’Arles festival, Photoville in New York, the Triennial of Photography in Hamburg and the Tbilisi Photo Festival. This year’s edition was held thanks to the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Department of Culture of the City of Wrocław. More information about the project 👉 here.

Financed under the NIEPODLEGŁA Multiannual Programme for 2017-2022, as a part of the “Cultural Bridges” (“Kulturalne pomosty”) grant programme of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

Project co-financed by the Municipality of Wrocław.
