The 18th edition of the ManifestO – Photo confluence of Toulouse starts this Friday. Polish photography will take an important place in its program: at an exhibition, a slide show, meetings with authors and a portfolio review.
This is the third part of this year’s Polish Paradise 2020 program, which was created by Fotofestiwal, TIFF Festival and Krakow Photomonth to promote selected artists at international photography events outside of Poland, thanks to public grants (by Institute of Adam Mickewicz and Cultural Division of Wrocław Municipality). The online events during Riga Photomonth and the International Symposium of Photography in Nida are behind us. This Friday starts ManifestO – the 18th edition of the international photo event, the heart of which are exhibitions in containers located along the Garonne River. For two weeks, around 20,000 people visit this place, and the accompanying events scattered throughout the city.
The opening of the festival will also be the opening of a special exhibition, Polish Paradise Cabin. The exhibition was prepared in a form referring to architecture of Polish summer houses at camps popular in the second half of the previous century. Via this unique installation we will present the works of Lena Dobrowolska, Antonina Gugała, Agnieszka Rayss, Dominika Sadowska, Agnieszka Sejud and Karolina Wojtas, as well as a curatorial selection (prepared by Frank Ammer and Michał Leśniowski) of Polish photo books. Publications will also be the subject of the slide show presented at the Garonne on the same evening. During the following days of the festival, the invited artists will take part in book signing (19.09, 5 p.m.), portfolio review and guided tours of the exhibition (20.09 5 p.m.).
For the meeting with the French audience, we have also prepared a publication presenting the portfolio of artists participating in this year’s edition of Polish Paradise. The publication will also appear at the Kaunas Art Book Fair, where the next and last edition of our program for promoting Polish art abroad will take place.
Financed under the NIEPODLEGŁA Multiannual Programme for 2017-2022, as a part of the “Cultural Bridges” (“Kulturalne pomosty”) grant programme of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
