Green Area

Looking at a map, parks are nice little green squares in the body of  the city. They can be recognized as areas for future developments like factories, shopping centers and housing zones.

During a period of two years I was doing documentation of decaying public areas in and  around Budapest – before the profitable investments swallow them. I  also tried to discover wilderness of these footholds.

Parks are places of joy and revitalization. They are designed to  evoke a perfect view of the Garden of Eden, but urbanization is  quite about the opposite. Cities were invented to escape from forces of  Nature by creating controlled and calculable surroundings. In such an enviroment park is a heart of nostalgia even if its origin is not natural in any way. Green zones were created by people to symbolize the idea of Nature, but they were conquered and stripped from wild forces.

The life-giving practice of nowadays shows that social refugees who are expelled from their communities and start to inhabit the green areas proved to be unable to fit in the new environment. Some of them return to a place of voluntary exile, the artificial Paradise.
