Leading:
Yulia Shablovskaya – Belarusian documentary photographer, journalist, founder of the photography department at Belarus’ only independent TV station Belsat and originator of the “New Home” project – a project in which photography and art therapy have come together to help children and teenagers from Belarus and Ukraine, forced to emigrate, go through this experience and tell about it through photography. Yulia believes that photography, with its ability to observe and analyze what is going on around them, becomes an ideal tool to help them deal with their emotions, to focus on their condition in this situation. And this is exactly what the photographer intends to inspire the participants to do during the photographic part of the “New Home #Lodz” workshop.
Organizers: Urban Activity Factory, Fotofestiwal – International Festival of Photography in Lodz, Humanosh Foundation
Partner: Lodz Multicultural Center and New Home Project

Fabryka Aktywności Miejskiej (Urban Activity Factory), Tuwima 10
DID YOU KNOW that Tuwima Street was once named Przejazd (Passage Road)?
The Passage Road was laid out in 1823, at the beginning of the industrial era of Łódź. It was the road to the woods at the city borders (the today’s Park 3 Maja is what is left of the forest). When going from the woods, people passed through the city along the Przejazd (Passage) Street, and returned along the Nawrot (Return) Street. Yet, back then, the two streets had the opposite directions to those of today. In 1954, the Przejazd Street was renamed after a poet from Łódź, Julian Tuwim.
Henryk Wagner’s factory for weaving machines and utensils was established at Przejazd 10 in 1881. After the war, it was nationalised and served as a factory of machinery parts, and then it offered various commercial services. The former factory building still boasts its original chimney, which has a very unusual square cross-section. It was renovated in 2004. On top of the chimney, you can see a “Seagull” neon designed by Marcelo Zammenhoff and Jessica Rossolini.
Importantly, the Urban Activity Factory has been operating here since May 2022.
