Diego Moreno

Diego Moreno, born in Mexico in 1992, has been called “an artist shaping the future of photography”, one of the “most influential emerging talents” and “a name you need to know” by the most prestigious photography institutions and magazines in the world such as British Journal of Photography, Foam Magazine and LensCulture.

He calls himself a “rebel storyteller”. His decisive, uncompromising style and the universal topic he deals with – the identity and cultural burdens of an individual – allowed him to break onto the international stage, also to a wide audience, in less than a decade. Diego’s works have been published by the British The Guardian, Vogue Italia, Elle India and the international Vice, as well as by trade press around the world, including: IMA Tokyo, Der Greif and Fisheye. He represented Latin America at the Biennial in Ethiopia, and his photographs are in private and public collections in Latin America, the USA, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania

The artist works currently in Switzerland. We will exhibit his most awarded and recognized projects “Malign Influences” and “’In my mind there is never silence”.

Diego Moreno on Malign Influences.

Inspired by the apocalyptic vision of the Catholic Church I served for twelve years as a child and was raised in a highly religious environment, I grew up disturbed by who I was because of my sexual orientation. My identity was veiled by the prejudices and guilt that religious doctrines bestow on you. Throughout my life, the symbol of the monstrous and the abnormal was the only image I could empathise with because of the rejection

Malign Influences allows me to construct an alternate world without guilt, paying homage to the family album, one of the main fictional artefacts in our lives that generates our identity over time. This project is starred by the beings that inhabit my head, who neither hide nor are silent, they show themselves in all their monstrosity. They speak with multiple voices claiming their difference. Thus, with their ungrammatical language, we refuse to be condemned to silence.

Art_Inkubator, Tymienieckiego 3

DID YOU KNOW THAT Art_Inkubator is located in the former factory of Karol Scheibler II, son of the greatest factory owner in Łódź?

Every firstborn son in the Scheibler family was named Karol. The factory is a part of Księży Młyn, also called a town in town” or “Polish Manchester”. Scheibler Senior built the largest textile factory in this part of Europe, as well as an estate of workers’ houses, many palaces, hospitals, schools, and parks. Karol Scheibler’s legacy was later developed by Karol Scheibler II, who erected factories at Tymienieckiego and Milionowa Streets. The factory still has the original Russian gauge railway tracks! You will find them near the passage to the new “Fuzja” estate.
