Puklus deconstructs and questions the dynamics of the pre-established female and male roles: motherhood as an alleged heroic activity and the supposed duty of the father to build and protect the home. His search breaks down the traditional symbols associated with maternal and paternal figures in a playful yet critical way. Outside the confines of the photographic studio, he develops an original visual vocabulary around parental life and issues related to the construction of the family nucleus.

Together with the well acclaimed and awarded The Hero Mother – How to build a house – we present Puklus’ latest project devoted mainly to the masculine role in the society and the family – The Hero Father.

Peter Puklus is one of the most prominent Hungarian and Central European photographers. The artist publishes his own books as well as collects, researches, exhibits, and discusses publications by other photographers and photographers in this way contributing to the consolidation of the photobook boom in Central Europe. His recent projects also encompass sculptures, objects, paintings, installations, drawings, and videos. Puklus has held recent solo exhibitions, including Klotz Shows, Bruxelles, Ferenczy Múzeumi Centrum, Szentendre, C/O Berlin, and Raster Gallery in  Warsaw. His book has been shortlisted for the Aperture / Paris Photo Photobook Award 2016.

Art_Inkubator, Tymienieckiego 3

DID YOU KNOW THAT Art_Inkubator is located in the former factory of Karol Scheibler II, son of the greatest factory owner in Łódź?

Every firstborn son in the Scheibler family was named Karol. The factory is a part of Księży Młyn, also called a town in town” or “Polish Manchester”. Scheibler Senior built the largest textile factory in this part of Europe, as well as an estate of workers’ houses, many palaces, hospitals, schools, and parks. Karol Scheibler’s legacy was later developed by Karol Scheibler II, who erected factories at Tymienieckiego and Milionowa Streets. The factory still has the original Russian gauge railway tracks! You will find them near the passage to the new “Fuzja” estate.
