We announce the program of events!
You can finally fill up your hourly calendar or look at our schedule and find that the excuse not to go to Lodz is gone again this year. We announce the program of events of Fotofestiwal – the 23rd International Festival of Photography in Lodz.
To start – a novelty. Tomorrow (4.06) the opening of a sister brand of cultural events in Lodz – SpinOFF.
Sixteen openings over the next ten days, a total of twenty-one exhibitions, among the artistic names: Katarzyna Bielska, Paweł Bownik, Dagmara Bugaj, Paweł Fabjański, Krzysztof Pijarski, Grzegorz Przyborek, Józef Robakowski, Michał Siarek, Bartłomiej Talaga, among the curators, Katarzyna Kozyra, and on the map of events, for example, one of the largest in Lodz, Mieczysław Pinkus Tenement House, MPK depot at the unique Radiowo housing estate and… the roof of the Academy of Fine Arts. We see you tomorrow at the opening at the Portrait Studio on Księży Młyn. See the full program at: SPINOFF.
Opening of the festival – 13.06 – Bryte and Laboratorio Tropical
We open the festival with the rhythms of the global south entering into dialogue with the global north. This will be the first opportunity to see fourteen exhibitions at the Art_Inkubator festival center and to meet the winners of the Photo Publication of the Year competition. Here you can find the whole EXHIBITION PROGRAM.
NIGHT OF PHOTOGRAPHY – slideshows in the Old Market and an afterparty at Casablanca
After the opening of a unique photo exhibition from the Archives of the Institute of National Remembrance (Galeria Bałucka, When you look into my eyes twice, I will part my lips or clench my fists, Lukasz Rusznica) we will stay at the newly renovated Old Market Square in Lodz. On the big screen you will see, among other things, exceptional portraits from around the world awarded by the prestigious British Journal of Photography and the projects of the Talent Futures 2024 (Gembara, Gutu, Kacperak, Palinchak, Wełnicki). Live sound will be taken care of by Krzysztof Ostrowski, a man who knows Bydgoszcz, so is not afraid of Łódź. We end the night with time travel on the dance floor of Casablanca.
Second week of the festival – Meetings and discussions
After the vernissage rush of the first days of the festival, we are slowing down and squatting in the Art_Incubator for a moment of reflection about the realities of different photographic communities. On Sunday 16.06 – Infrastructure meeting for the photographic community outside Belarus. The same day lecture: Vernacular photography during the war in Ukraine, led by the curator of one of the best-rated exhibitions of last year’s festival, Kateryna Radchenko, and a meeting around the exhibition Photobook in Latin America. On Monday, 17.06 18:00 another important discussion: External Conflict, Internal Conflict – a meeting on artistic practices in the face of war with the participation of Mohammed Almughanni (Palestine), Yulia Kryvich (Ukraine) and Tomasz Szerszen – author of the recently published book To Be a Guest in a Disaster (published by Czarne). Finally – something about our own field in the panel discussion Art Beyond Art? Documentary Photography in Poland led by Adrian Wykrota.
Of course, that’s not all, as there will still be film screenings (including Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other with Joel Meyerowitz), lots of music (Ikarvs, Mentalcut, Tropical Basses), and photography book launches (by Igor Omulecki or Michal Sita). Soon our partner Leica will launch photo walk sign-ups (see their social channels), and we still have a few aces up our sleeve. We encourage you to read the EVENTS SCHEDULE and follow our upcoming activities.
