Exhibition opening: Dariusz Bienkowski’s COLLECTION OF EVENTS
For Dariusz Bieńkowski his COLLECTION OF EVENTS is a fascinating creative process. As he says, it allows him to forget about the world around. Treating it as a lifelong passion, you can busy yourself with it forever. However, there are many who have decided to do it. Is collecting worth the effort? It probably is. Mostly it is a thoroughly risky intention. It does not have to be socially and financially respected at all. Collecting for its own sake generally ends in serious frustration. It is good if the COLLECTION is one of a kind. Undoubtedly, Dariusz Bieńkowski has created such a unique collection.
He must have known that in the multimedia era it has to be multi-faceted, but also has to have an analytical line, a kind of “open” order. Therefore, he thoughtfully looks for a variety of vital events in contemporary culture that can make sense of his collection. Thanks to such a concept, it has a living tissue in it. We constantly need it, it fulfills the role of our own open gallery. The owner assumes that curators can include this collection in various explorative exhibitions. What is particularly important, Dariusz Bieńkowski’s private collection is of exceptionally high quality. It has acquired the status of a serious museum piece and thus has already been successfully exhibited in many museums and galleries all over Poland, e.g. in Poznań, Wrocław, Warsaw, Cracow, Łódź, Sopot and Orońsko.
The collection comprises, among others, the works by: Karol Hiller, Wacław Szpakowski, Stefan Themerson, Jadwiga Maziarska, Wojciech Fangor, Henryk Stażewski, Ryszard Winiarski, Zdzisław Beksiński, Andrzej Pawłowski, Zbigniew Dłubak, Teresa Murak, Gerard Kwiatkowski, Bronisław Szlabs, Zofia Rydet, Marek Piasecki, Kajetan Sosnowski, Koji Kamoji, Jerzy Lewczyński, Jadwiga Sawicka, Stefan Wojnecki, Barbara Konopka, Zdzisław Jurkiewicz, Karolina Breguła, Zbigniew Gostomski, Włodzimierz Borowski, Mikołaj Smoczyński, Alicja Żebrowska, Dominik Lejman, Krzysztof M. Bednarski, Zbigniew Rybczyński and a large collection of photographic works of Grupa Zero-6 (Andrzej Różycki, Jerzy Wardak, Wojciech Bruszewski, Wiesław Wojczulanis, Michał Kokot, Antoni Mikołajczyk and Józef Robakowski).
