Call For Artists - Fotofestiwal 2011

We invite you to send projects to the next edition of Fotofestiwal. Selected projects will be presented at the 10th International Festival of Photography in Lodz (5th-30th of May 2011)

GRAND PRIX FOTOFESTIWAL 2011 – OUT OF SPACE – the projects presented in the urban space.

OUT OF SPACE is an exhibition which will use the city space as a gallery. OUT OF SPACE is to go out of  the traditional exhibition area, out of what the audience is accustomed to, out of the standard circle of receivers and out of the known forms of presentation. Send over your photo projects or artistic projects with photography as one of the elements, which can be presented in the city space.

For years, the Grand Prix programme has been one of the main points of Fotofestiwal. It consists of individual exhibitions, selected from among the projects submitted by photographers and curators. Every year, the curator jury chooses 10-12 exhibitions out of about 600. The selected exhibitions are then presented during Fotofestiwal. In May, the most interesting project is awarded with the title of Grand Prix Fotofestiwal. So far, exhibitions have not been linked by a common theme – they were presentations of several new people and interesting subjects. This year, retaining the old formula, we are going to change the form and place of the presentation. The upcoming Grand Prix programme, entitled OUT OF SPACE, will be moved from galleries to the city space of Łódź.

MAIN PROGRAM – OUT OF LIFE – an exhibition, in which the curators will ask themselves following questions: What are we running from, how are we creating an alternate reality, what do we gain by living in our own private realities? Can photography become a form of an escape?

Sentenced to the cursed, though seemingly only apparent FREEDOM, overloaded with a stream of everyday NEWS, suspended between the reality of MARKETING and the world of the MEDIA, tainted with intensive WORK – we are running away. But are we really trying to escape it all, and if so – where are we running? What are the limits within and where does the outside begin?

These are some of the questions which I would like the artists presented within the POZA ŻYCIEM – OUT OF LIFE project to ask themselves. Curators of the exhibition – Nina Kassianou, Krzysztof Candrowicz – are waiting for your works until 15th of November 2010.
