Mourning the loss of a loved one | online meeting (PL)

DATE

HOUR
17:00

A conversation on mourning after the loss of a loved one – Anja Franczak (IDŚ) and Grzegorz Wełnicki. Meeting within the framework of Grzegorz Wełnicki’s exhibition “NO’AM”.

The Good Death Institute is a space for dialogue and education about dying, death and mourning. At our meetings, trainings and workshops, you can get closer to topics for which there is often not enough space in everyday life. At the Good Death Institute, we talk about life and death in a sensitive, informed and supportive way. We believe that such reflections can strengthen our sense of grounding, gratitude and respect.

Anja Franczak – founder of the Good Death Institute
She is involved in education in the area of death and bereavement. She supports people at the last stage of life, those in mourning and those who accompany them through individual consultations, training and workshops. Rituals play an important role in her work. As a celebrant/master of ceremonies, she creates and conducts personal rituals of farewell and humanistic funeral ceremonies. She trained in Heidelberg at the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Care (Institut für Klinische Seelsorgeausbildung) and is a professional bereavement companion certified by the Federal Association for Bereavement Companionship in Germany (Bundesverband Trauerbegleitung e.V.). As a dying doula and certified instructor of the international initiative of Last Aid Courses (Letzte Hilfe), she provides education about the dying process and supports families who are caring for a loved one in the last stage of life. / anjafranczak.com, instagram.com/anja.franczak

Grzegorz Wełnicki
The photo of Josephine – a Filipina suffering from a rare skin disease – in the costume of Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl” appeared in 2013 in “Wysokie Obcasy” (High Heels) and is still one of the most memorable covers of Polish magazines. Other photographs from Wełnicki’s expedition to the Philippines were published along with text by Wojciech Tochman in the book “Eli, Eli” (Czarne Publishing House), and the artist has many more magazine covers to his credit, including through his work with Rats Agency and the Public Protest Archive (the group was nominated for Polityka’s Passports). He has devoted much of his artistic work to the subject of death. Some of his projects have been shown at festivals such as: Within Sopot, Photo Is:rael and Verzasca Foto Festival in Switzerland. The “No’am” exhibition at the Lodz Fotofestival will be the premiere showing of many of the photos and the culmination of much of the artist’s work with this theme. Wełnicki’s works have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the Pauza gallery in Krakow, among others, and have also appeared in: “British Journal of Photography”, “Frieze Magazine”, “Life Framer”, “Shum Magazine”, “DOC! Photo Magazine,” “GUP Magazine.” / www.grzegorzwelnicki.com
