External conflict – internal conflict. On artistic practices during war and oppression
Meeting, screening, and discussion on artistic practices in the face of war and oppression.
Invited guests will present their experiences of working in the context of conflict, systemic violence, and traumatic experiences. Speakers: Mohammed Almughanni (Palestine), Yulia Krivich (Ukraine), and Tomasz Szerszeń (Poland). The event will also include a screening of the documentary film Shujayya (directed by Mohammed Almughanni, 20′), a poignant storytelling of life in Gaza and a family affected by the consequences of the war.
Mohammed Almughanni – born in Gaza in 1994, film director and screenwriter. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Film Directing from Łódź Film School in Poland. His films, focusing on racial justice and socio-political life amid wars, have garnered awards at festivals including Ji.hlava (2020), IDFA (2023), and Clermont-Ferrand (2024). Almughanni raises awareness about collateral issues faced by innocent civilians in war, including national identity and unregistered children.
Yulia Krivich – visual artist, curator, and activist born in Dnipro (Ukraine), living in Warsaw. She is a PhD candidate at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and co-founder of the Solidarity House of Culture “Słonecznik” (Sunflower) at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Yulia has participated in numerous international projects and exhibitions in Ukraine, Poland, and worldwide. Her interests include topics related to language, the decolonization process, and Central and Eastern Europe.
Tomasz Szerszeń – photographer, cultural anthropologist, and writer. Author of the books: Being a Guest in a Catastrophe (2024), All the World’s Wars (2021), Architecture of Survival (2017), Journey without a Map and Passport (2015). Assistant professor at the Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Author and curator of photographic and theatre projects and exhibitions.
