Map I Territory is a project of a group of students of the Studio of Photographic Document of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Over the past few months, they have worked in selected areas of the city, most often defined by a small radius around their place of residence or the route taken on the way to university or home. In this way, they played the role of photo cartographers, whose task was to co-create a visual map of the territory of Łódź. How they interpreted the task of creating their own map of a given area resulted from the sensitivity and interests of each individual. For some, the inspiration was the architecture, for others, urban folklore of the area or the history of the place. Others looked for an unusual storytelling perspective, new ways to move from point to point, or recurring elements of the environment that can be collected. All these approaches were transferred during our online classes to a digital work table, part of which was the city map. As part of the exhibition, we recreate the map, also transforming it into a dummy of the publication.
