Fotofestiwal program for the upcoming week

The opening of two exhibitions from the University of Lodz with a film premiere, a meeting exploring the concept of intelligence and the impact of technology on our future, a screening of shorts by students of the Lodz Film School. Before we tell you about the next and last weekend of Fotofestiwal, read what we have prepared for you in the coming days.

On Tuesday 17, at 6 p.m., we will meet on the Art_Inkubator stage to talk about Dream of the Machine the interdisciplinary project by the artist-designer duo Noviki and Post-Radio by the director, film producer, and AI researcher and creator Jacek Nagłowski, which was inspired by Wojciech Bruszewski’s Radio Ruins of Art. The discussion The Blue Flower in the Land of Technology  is hosted by the Future Fragments project and features Jacek Nagłowski, Marcin Nowicki, Krzysztof Pijarski and Ada Florentyna Pawlak, who will talk about how AI can be used in art creation.

And later at 7:30 p.m. we invite you to the theatre room for a screening of shorts by students of the Film School in Lodz. On the program: Duck Broth, (dir. Maria Dakszewicz, 2024, 5’), My Mom (dir. Agnieszka Popińska, 2024, 13’), Ends and Beginnings (dir. Klaudia Fortuniak, 2024, 18’), The Dam (dir. Giovanni Pierangeli, 2024, 27’), Cargo (dir. Tymoteusz Kałużewski, 2025, 25’). On Wednesday a long evening at Palace Bidermann hosted by the University of Lodz. We start  at 6pm with the opening of the collective exhibition Community’s Histories (1945-2025)”  that celebrates the 80th anniversary of the institution. Based on a collection of photographs – from official and private archives – pertaining to UŁ’s history, various artists were invited to create something based on these images. Followed by the opening of the second collective exhibition Works of Photosophy: Sampler at 7 p.m. – where students of the Lodz Film School have brought to life the archival material of one of the most valued Lodz photographers, Andrzej Różycki.

The evening ends with the screening of Kotarbiński at 8 p.m.  A film with the direction of Julia Klewaniec, that tells the story of Tadeusz Kotarbiński – the first rector of the University of Lodz, by using archival film and photographic materials, animations, and images processed through artificial intelligence.

On Thursday at 6 p.m. we again invite our Theater room in Art_inkubator for the film screening of Viktor (dir. Olivier Sarbil, 2024, 91’) – one of the most visually astonishing and touching film story of the year. Shot by a two times Emmy® winner, war photographer and cameraman, the film serves one of the most unusual approaches to a war subject: of a struggle of a one last man that has to stay in Kharkiv as he cannot go to war. The sound was made by an Oscar® winner for the film “Sound of Metal”, Nicolas Becker, and one of the film’s producers is Darren Aronofsky.

AWe end the week on Friday at 6 p.m. with the meeting Sampler, or how to create from archives? aiming to discuss the importance of photographic archives in contemporary creative activities. Aleksandra Jarysz, Karol Hordziej, Igor Omulecki will take part in the discussion, which will be moderated by Marcela Paniak and Miłosz Hermanowicz.

We also invite you to by the SpinOFF closing party Fashion Leak at 8 p.m. in YMCA. A  performative fashion show that combines the modernist architecture of the YMCA in Lodz with an experimental approach to fabric, construction and form. 20 fashion silhouettes are introduced into the ruins of a former swimming pool, bringing new meanings within the boundaries of fashion, deconstructing traditional forms and using processes of degradation as a design element.

We would like to remind you that after the opening weekend, you can visit the exhibitions at Art_Inkubator on Tymienieckiego 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

See you there!
