Activist Nan Goldin and artist Nan Goldin are inextricably linked. The artist left home at a young age and made a breakthrough in the world of photography with “Ballad of Sexual Dependency,” a series of captivating, colorful, intimate photographs depicting the queer community, herself, her family and friends. She now devotes all her energy to the activist group she founded, PAIN (Prescription Addiction Intervention Now), which stands up for painkiller addicts and fights the manufacturers of these drugs – the Sackler family, which subsidizes many cultural institutions in the US.

Oscar-nominated director Laura Poitras shows Goldin’s life and work from her perspective. Among other awards, the film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for Best Picture.
