Sunday at the Museum. Photocommunity
When we take photographs of one another, when we send them to each other, when we look at them together, the phenomenon of photography reveals its community-building dimension. The “Sunday at the Museum” under the slogan of “Photocommunity” will provide an opportunity to test various ways in which photography, as well as being both the photographer and the photographed, builds bonds between people. We will check how long the community united by photography can last and to what extent a photograph is a reminder of these relationships.
In the garden of the Museum of Art in Łódź, we will carry out experiments inspired by Józef Robakowski’s photographic instructions. Together with Paweł Ogrodzki, we will set up the Neighbours’ Photo Studio. We will check whether photography can be used as a starting point for spontaneous choreographies, and how it works as a tool for re-interpretation of the latest art.
The series of “Sunday at the Museum” meetings is inspired by the cultural events initiated in the 1970s and 1980s by the then director, Ryszard Stanisławski. In this way, he established a platform for face-to-face meetings of the working-class audience of Łódź with avant-garde artists, with additional attractions such as fairs, fashion shows, rock concerts and brass band performances.
