Virgílio Ferreira

Virgílio Ferreira (Porto, 1970) lives and works in Porto as a photographer, curator and educator. He is the founder and the director of Ci.CLO, an independent organisation dedicated to research, training and experimentation in photography, as well as interacting with other artistic, social, and environmental studies. In 2018 he’s creating the Bienal Fotografia do Porto, proposing a set of residences and grants for the invited artists to develop new projects. It focuses on supporting innovative forms of visual representation that raise awareness of the impact of human behaviour in social and environmental terms.

For the last 20 years he has been developing projects in the fields of education, creation, and programming in partnership with several festivals, museums, cultural centres and art schools in Portugal and abroad. Recently, he was responsible for the organization and curation of the ESCAPE project, a co-production with Triennale der Photographie Hamburg and Ci.CLO.

As an artist his work has been widely exhibited, published and awarded in Europe, the Middle East, the United States, and Southeast Asia and represented in several public and private collections.
