Ewa Partum, Change
Ewa Partum – the pioneer of Polish feminist art and one of the most important avant-garde artists in Poland. She used her own body to protest against social inequalities as early as the 1970s. How are these works received today, when protest, rebellion and the fight for one’s own body and its representation have become the everyday language life for a few generations?
It is here, in Łódź – the city which is particularly close to the artist – that Ewa Partum created her first feminist actions and performances. The 1971 Legality of space has become one of the classic examples of urban space art.
The exhibition is more than a journey back in time. It is also a meeting with an exceptional artist, who has been provoking, experimenting and pushing the envelope of arts for 60 years now.
Municipal Art gallery in Łódź – Galeria Re:Medium, Piotrkowska 113
The Municipal Art Gallery in Łódź, established in 1924, is the oldest cultural institution in Łódź established to promote contemporary art. The beautiful and magnificent tenement house was built in 1911-1912, by Albert Böhme, according to a design by Romuald Müller. In the tenement, Böhme opened an elegant store selling haberdashery, luxury goods and toys. Pavel Ignatovich’s delicatessen and Aron Lejzor Taksin’s weaving instrument factory were also located here. At this address was the wallpaper warehouse of the well-known Łódź company Adolf Butschkat, later moved to 95 Gdańska Street.
