Exhibition opening: Change – Ewa Partum
Ewa Partum – the pioneer of Polish feminist art and one of the most important avant-garde artists in Poland. She used her own body to protest against social inequalities as early as the 1970s. How are these works received today, when protest, rebellion and the fight for one’s own body and its representation have become the everyday language life for a few generations?
The Change / Zmiana exhibition takes us back to the time when Ewa Partum posed bold questions about the place of a woman in society and arts, and mind you, she did that in the reality of communist Polish People’s Republic. On display, you will find photographs, recordings and other documentation of her breakthrough performance actions.
It is here, in Łódź – the city which is particularly close to the artist – that Ewa Partum created her first feminist actions and performances. The 1971 Legality of space has become one of the classic examples of urban space art.
The exhibition is more than a journey back in time. It is also a meeting with an exceptional artist, who has been provoking, experimenting and pushing the envelope of arts for 60 years now.
