The series of „(Un)forgettable” photographs is a story about streets, backyards and buildings of current Łódź left alone. The photos document a condition that will change in the near future as a result of extensive revitalization of these areas.
The starting point are Parisian pictures of Eugène Atget. The documentalist wanted to save views of the capital of France from oblivion before the reconstruction of Georges Haussmann.
The presented photographs show crumbling buildings, destroyed graffiti, broken windows in a reflective way which indicate the continuity of the city and its inner spirit – once glistening with newness, neglected today, tomorrow on the verge of a thorough reconstruction. (Un)forgettable are the non-stereotypical portrayal of the city just before the change. The author looks for inspiration in her city which Man Ray and Berenice Abbott found in the photographs of a French documentalist.
Anna Włodarska (1997, Łódź) – photography student at the University of Warsaw. She began her adventure with photography three years ago. (Un)forgettable is her debut individual exhibition which is the culmination of one-year work on a BA thesis under the supervision of dr Wojciech Sternak.
