Bonnie Rubenstein has been a director at the CONTACT Photography Festival in Toronto since 2002, and established the curated program of Public Installations and Primary Exhibitions. Since then she has overseen hundreds of projects by established and emerging artists from Canada and around the world for the annual city-wide festival. Every year she curates numerous site specific installations in public spaces—including civic sites, building atriums and facades, billboards and subway stations—as well as solo and/or group exhibitions at major galleries in greater Toronto, some of which have toured internationally. Rubenstein collaborates with artists, curators, museums, and not-for-profit organizations to present outstanding lens-based works framing the cultural, social and political events of our times and the history of photography. She previously held positions at Lisson Gallery, London, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, where she coordinated and produced exhibitions, edited artist monographs and exhibition catalogues, represented artists, and oversaw public sculpture commissions internationally.
She is interested in contemporary work with a focus on site specific installation based projects and multimedia practices.
