At the age of ten, Javier Marquerie left Los Barros, the country estate where he used to live with his parents until they got divorced, and went with his mother to live in Cardiff.

Melancholic Archaeology is an exercise of remembering the idle. The work is presented in two parts: the first one is a journey through Los Barros, looking for landscapes which link the author with his father, looking for the trace that time has left on the landscapes of his childhood. The second part is an attempt to endure an ephemeral act of optimism and turn it into a tradition. With patience and care, he digs into the earth to reveal its roots.
