Endstation Sehnsucht / A Streetcar Named Desire

In the Prater, a large park and wooded premises in Vienna, Frank Robert has photographed over the last years bigger and smaller sites of the antiquated offering of pleasure and entertainment for the masses. The Prater, a pleasure garden from the 19th century, still – despite its renovation and cautious technical modernization – has the charm of past eras.

Frank Robert’s Prater photos show specific places in which time seems to stand still. Robert: ‘The Prater is more of a once-upon-a-time fairytale than a freshly polished perfection from today. If it stood in real life, it would have been torn down long ago. It is thanks to its dreamy character that the Prater could remain as is.’
