Firma Samsung objęła mecenat nad tegoroczną, dziesiątą już edycją Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Fotografii w Łodzi. Marka sprawować będzie pieczę nad wszystkimi wydarzeniami festiwalowymi: wystawami, imprezami specjalnymi oraz warsztatami fotograficznymi połączonymi z fotospacerami. Dla lubiących wyzwania zorganizowany zostanie specjalny konkurs fotograficzny OUT OF HOME – na najlepsze zdjęcie w stylu street creative. Uczestnicy festiwalu będą mieli również okazję obejrzeć wystawę zdjęć prezentujących ten niebanalny styl fotografowania.

Centralnym punktem Fotofestiwalu 2011 będą dwie wystawy w ramach Programu Głównego: OUT OF LIFE oraz OUT OF MIND. Do interpretacji tematów zaprosiliśmy Celinę Lunsford, Ninę Kassianou oraz Krzysztofa Candrowicza. Obydwie wystawy wyrosły z zainteresowania człowiekiem, jego relacją ze współczesnym światem, społeczeństwem i samym sobą. Opowiedzą o funkcji i sposobach tworzenia alternatywnych rzeczywistości. O granicach, jakie stawia człowiek między tym, co wykreowane, a tym, co rzeczywiste.

OUT OF MIND – pisze kuratorka wystawy Celina Lunsford - może sprawić, że zmienimy sposób, w jaki postrzegamy samych siebie. Kluczem do zrozumienia wystawy staną się terminy „obsesja”, „iluzja” i „fantazja”. Wszystkie z dwunastu prezentowanych projektów łączy wspólny motyw tożsamości i niecodzienny sposób prezentowania rzeczywistości.  W tej ekspozycji znajdą się m.in. prace takich fotografów, jak: Erwin Olaf i Levi van Veluw. Wystawa OUT OF LIFE to studium socjologiczne, w którym artyści i kuratorzy poruszają tematy alienacji, samotności i ucieczki.

Tegoroczny Program Grand Prix, zatytułowany OUT OF SPACE to wystawa, dla której galerią stanie się przestrzeń miejska. Podczas dziesięciu festiwalowych dni Łódź zamieni się w galerię, gdzie będzie można obejrzeć prace 11 artystów z całego świata.

Wśród wystaw towarzyszących zaprezentujemy kilka niezwykłych premier fotograficznych, w tym najważniejszą - najnowszy projekt gwiazdy rosyjskiej fotografii Alexeya Titarenki, który artysta zrealizował w Łodzi dla Atlasa Sztuki. Ciekawym kontrastem dla poetyckiej wizji miasta, jaką stworzył rosyjski fotograf będzie wystawa Energia Czasu. Archiwum Dalkii – nieprezentowany do tej pory zbiór fotografii powstałych w Łodzi w latach 1922-1940,  dokumentujących dynamicznie rozwijające się miasto i przebudowę łódzkiej elektrowni.

W programie pojawi się także kolejna edycja Fabryki Fotografii – przeglądu szkół fotograficznych, poszerzona o nowe szkoły zagraniczne. Do udziału w przeglądzie portfolio tym razem zaprosiliśmy przede wszystkim fotoedytorów, kuratorów oraz wydawców z całej Europy. A program slajdów opracowaliśmy wspólnie z redaktorami fotograficznych magazynów internetowych: „1000 Words Magazine”, „Lapsus Magazine” i „Poncz Magazine”. Co roku pokazy slajdów powstają specjalnie dla Fotofestiwalu, doskonała selekcja prac przygotowana przez kuratorów i specjalnie dobrana muzyka pozwalają na stworzenie unikalnych prezentacji.

Nie zapominamy także o fotospacerach, warsztatach, programie edukacyjnym dla dzieci i młodzieży i o konkursach. A przede wszystkim o dziesiątych urodzinach Fotofestiwalu – zapraszamy na sentymentalną noc wspomnień, opowieści i przegląd starych albumów fotograficznych.

Biografie kuratorów:

Celina Lunsford (Fotografie Forum International, Frankfurt, Niemcy) - wybitnej klasy specjalista w dziedzinie fotografii; jest dyrektorem artystycznym, kuratorem Fotografie Forum International i konsultantem projektów fotograficznych. Od ponad 20 lat pracuje jako kurator i organizator wystaw. Od 1986 r. mieszka w Niemczech i reprezentuje Imogen Cunningham Trust w Europe. Regularnie jest zapraszana na liczne międzynarodowe festiwale i konkursy, ostatnio zasiadała w jury: Cedefop/Photomuseum Award 2008, Saloniki, Hyreres International Festival of Fashion and Photography, 2007 oraz European Central Bank Photography Award, 2005.

Nina Kassianou (Muzeum Fotografii w Salonikach, Grecja) - doktor historii fotografii. Współpracuje z Muzeum Fotografii w Salonikach w charakterze kuratora ekspozycji oraz wydawcy książek. Na stałe pracuje jako kurator w Galerii Mavromihali 55 w Atenach. Zajmuje także stanowisko krytyka fotografii w najbardziej poważanej greckiej gazecie – „TO VIMA”. W swej dotychczasowej karierze organizowała liczne wystawy indywidualne oraz grupowe, a także zajmowała się redakcją książek o fotografii. Brała udział w wielu festiwalach w Europie w charakterze recenzenta. Jest jednym z współautorów Pierwszej Encyklopedii Fotografii Europejskiej (część poświęcona Grecji).

Krzysztof Candrowicz - ukończył studia magisterskie na Uniwersytecie Łódzkim – Socjologia Kultury oraz studia podyplomowe Zarządzanie Kulturą w perspektywie integracji z Unią Europejską na Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Warszawie. Pomysłodawca i koordynator licznych projektów z zakresu kultury, sztuki, Public Relations i marketingu terytorialnego. Dyrektor Łódź Art Center (Międzynarodowe Centrum Sztuki w Łodzi), twórca projektu Łódź - Europejska Stolica Kultury 2016, dyrektor FOTOFESTIWALU – Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Fotografii w Łodzi, dyrektor ŁODŹ DESIGN – Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Designu, założyciel PHOTO FESTIVAL UNION (Unia Europejskich Festiwali Fotografii) - stowarzyszenie 30 festiwali z Europy. Współtworzone przez niego projekty nagradzane były w licznych plebiscytach i konkursach, m.in. HELIKON 2005 (Forum Komunikacji Marketingowej), Produkt Turystyczny Roku 2006 (Polska Organizacja Turystyczna), wyróżnienie za zasługi dla rozwoju Łodzi (Gala Biznesu BCC) oraz Art & Business Awards. W roku 2007 został uhonorowany nagrodą Łodzianina Roku.

As part of a programme of photographic events in Cork City and County running in February organised by Sirius and numerous arts organizations.

French photographer, based in Berlin Charlie Jouvet presents two works in the Sirius Galleries. In Geheiminsträger, he reveals what he sees as traces of the past reflected in the present.

In Central Europe during World War II, humanity experienced an unprecedented point of fusion in its history which showed that it carried within itself the seeds of its own destruction. In turn, as many have said or demonstrated, this moment opened up a time in which every life and every act of creation now has another value. This work is an attempt to say that although this epoch is growing distant and slowly disappearing from our sight, it nonetheless still exists. It remains, but in other ways. The worlds is not the same anymore, it stores its own experience and has recorded that moment when its own energy was fractured

“I want to reveal this past that rises to the surface and permeates our present, making it what it is today. The past that Primo Levi described when he spoke of the end of the concentration camps: “The Ghost army still lingering there was composed of Geheimnisträger, the bearers of secrets…” I want to find these images, these bearers of secrets”

Included in this exhibition is an additional body of photographs made by Jouvet while on an artist residency in the Sirius Arts Centre in December 2009. “ The Pier” reflects the artist’s impressions of the town as he roamed about photographing with a crude plastic camera. These dreamlike images carry within them the echoes of the past and present.

Charlie Jouvet has been exhibited in France, Poland, Moldova, Switzerland and Germany. This is his first solo exhibition in Ireland

FRAME is oriented exclusively towards professional photographers and students of photographic schools and places no restrictions on their choice of genres or photographic technique.

Organizers
FRAME is a sponsored photographic competition organized by FOTOGRAFIKS and photo group Jasan.

Jury
Results are decided by a seven-member panel of experts. Jurors in previous years have been Jana Bömerová, Pavel Dias, Eva Heyd, Miroslav Hladík, Aleš Kuneš, Josef Moucha, Ivan Pinkava, Iren Stehli, Jindřich Štreit, Miroslav Vojtěchovský.

Exhibitions
Awarded works are organized into one exhibit and displayed at several exhibitions during the year.

Catalog
The exhibit is accompanied by a catalog featuring the awarded works.
